The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is likely to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, as all 10 franchises unveil their retention lists filled with surprises and strategic decisions.
A total of 46 players have been retained, with franchises spending a cumulative Rs 558.5 crore, while 36 of the retained players are Indian, including 10 uncapped stars. Notable releases include Indian captaincy options Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul, creating opportunities for teams seeking new leadership.
Interestingly, no England players were retained, with several big names like Jos Buttler and Sam Curran allowed to enter the auction. Teams like the Mumbai Indians are banking on their strong Indian core, while Royal Challengers Bangalore has retained only three players, leaving them with the second-largest auction purse.
The Punjab Kings surprised many by opting not to retain any capped players, indicating a shift toward developing young talent. Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings retained MS Dhoni, focusing on blending experience with youth. Each franchise is preparing for a competitive auction as they look to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season.
